Peak cuts part-timers
Don Day | January 25, 2009Peak Broadcasting has removed all of its part-timers from the payroll – the latest in a series of cuts.
Peak managers cut Jon Duane, Chris Kelly, Jim Kimball, Amber Lee and several back office staffers in past months.
Hmmmm, Peak is advertising for a Marketing and Promotions person for Kiss and Lite….wonder how long that job will last?
There must be some retired Kamikazi pilots who would apply for that job.
Make up your minds.
Cutbacks are bad
Hiring is bad
Which is it?
Seems kind of strange to cut ALL your part timers…
Did they give their PTers benefits, etc….
Were they making huge sums of money… It seems kind of hard for me to figure…since part timers offer some measure of flexibility and fill in options etc…
The only thing that comes to mind…HEY PEAK IS REALLY HURTING TO DO THAT…
Can someone enlighten me as to what my logic is missing here…
I really like how Peak used “the economy” as an excuse to let some of these people go. How about the poor marketing of the station most of these talented people we’re on?
According to the press release that was put out after Jon and Chris we’re let go, Peak claimed the economy had tanked on them a year previous, about 6 months into “All Talk 63 KFXD”…
I believe this was poor execution of a local talk radio format that was starting to work. Before it’s initial presentation was put on the air, the idea and line-up didn’t sound like it would work.
Jon and Chris should have been in the 10am-2pm time slot to start from. They could have really built a good following of people later on in the day.
Personally, I think Jon and Chris still have gas in the tank.
Secondly, anyone that doesn’t snap up Jim Kimball is insane. That guy is very loyal and has a strong work ethic. Not only does he run a clean board, he’s got a decent air presentation to boot.
RadioActive,
Just a generic response..cutting part-time hours doesn’t necessarily mean letting anyone go. If you really need someone they are still technically on staff.
I am not sure how many companies realize cutting hours and not letting someone go doesn’t mean they can’t get unemployment. I hope everyone out there that has gotten their hours cut realizes this.
“Secondly, anyone that doesn’t snap up Jim Kimball is insane. That guy is very loyal and has a strong work ethic. Not only does he run a clean board, he’s got a decent air presentation to boot.”
Sure, but is he willing to work part-time for $8/hour with no benefits? That seems to be all that matters in today’s world.
To re: Jon, Chris and Jim…AMEN!!! I wish someone would pick Jon and Chris up and put them on the air – I miss them tremendously. Since they were pulled from the morning air I’m back to Dan Carlin podcasts or npr. I can’t stand the normal AM morning shows around here. I also loved the way Jon and Chris entertained the public; and I don’t mean made cute voices or anything like that; they welcomed people into their “radio living room” to listen and be a part of what was going on.
Stripes (Jim) here…
Well, right now $8.00 / hr is better than nothing, which is what I am doing right now, aside from refereeing hockey games. I don’t need the bennies right now, I have those through my wife. So, if anyone is looking for a morning producer, a production assistant, live or voicetrack guy, let me know. I’m starting to grow mushrooms on my bottom! :)
Jim (a.k.a Stripes)
P.S. Thanks for the kind words about my on air production… I try my best!
So here I’ve been sick for two days…I just start feeling better…then I get to read about mushrooms growing on Jim’s bottom. There’s a visual that’ll haunt me.
I always try to keep my audience rivited… (Blazing Saddles)…
Get well, Tommy!
