With all the layoffs, the least they could do is hire a proofreader (or I guess a second one if they have one, but I doubt they do since that's usually the first job to go).

I agree that print media is really going by the wayside, which is unfortunate because it's nice to be able to sit at the table in the mornings reading a newspaper that you can physically touch rather than being a slave to a computer monitor.

The Statesman may yet become an Internet only publication. The Seattle PI may shut down its print edition at the end of April, reducing it staff from 170 to around 20 if it becomes an Internet only publication. The Seattle Times, according to some reports, may be facing bankruptcy.

Will I miss the Statesman if the print edition folds? No, not really. I have over 40 other news resources available to me to find out what is happening in Boise and Idaho. Do I feel sorry for those people who will lose their jobs at the Statesman? Absolutely.

The reality is that the newspaper industry, as well as certain parts of broadcasting are no longer meeting the needs and interests of their market. Advertisers and advertising agencies have realized this for quite some time, but the media have not responded by creating content that engages the listener or reader in a meaningful way.

Newspapers, in some form, will survive along with radio, but I feel the industry will be a mere shadow of its former self.
