After 10% cut, two leave Mix

Don Day | February 18, 2009

KCIX/ Mix 106 program director Brent Carrey and APD Lucas are leaving Peak Broadcasting.

The news comes less than a week after managers told staff they will be taking a 10% pay cut.

Carrey was also PD for Lite FM, which is now left without any jocks, a live morning show, an MD, or a PD.

If Magic is smart they will pick them up, get out of the three horse race with Kiss and Wild and take on hot AC.

Jeez, I guess Lite is really light now huh? Is it possible Clear Channel actually employed more live talent at the end then Peak does right now?

As I sat in last weeks lunchroom meeting while the GM was telling all of us about the 10% pay cuts, I saw a lot of people nodding in a strange sort of understanding… I was even thinking to myself “Yeah, a 10 percent paycut is better than more people losing their jobs”

Then a brave soul piped up and asked the question that was probably on everyones mind… are we as a company going to make it through 2009?

The GM fired right back with a very confident “Oh yes, we are in very good financial shape right now” he then went on to say that the “10% cuts here in Boise and down in Fresno are going to save the company a ton of money and that Peak plans to plow that back into other “distressed ” station groups in the west! … … … WHAT? Your gonna cut my pay by ten percent to go on a shopping spree? FU…

I’m glad Lucas and Brent had the balls to leave! Good luck finding a job in this economy!!!

Any more staff cuts and they will be officially downgraded to Citizens Band.

SO with this meeting information in mind…and if this is true that more property is to be purchased…How will Peak reward its employees who stuck around and experienced pay cuts… Just a thought…

Maybe those left feel they are just lucky to have a job when the dust clears… And another question….how are the Top Dogs taking it? Ten Percent is a great deal of money to someone making 25K a year….that relates to food on the table etc, its more like “discretionary spending” to management types etc, making six figures…..

The Allaccess article pointed that they were accepting T&R’s for Brent’s job…no mention of Lucas. So…did they leave on their own as “Commerce” said or were they asked to leave. Just curious.

Today’s Radio-Info news ticker reports that the cluster’s OM, Jason Wilmot, adds PD duties of both stations. Phew!
