Journal cut Dave Sparks as PD for J-105, as well as a couple of other support staff a couple of months ago.

There's your examples.

Also, I would wager that Journal has as much or more full time on air staff than Peak or Impact these days. Citadel... well, I still don't know their full-time to part-time on air quotient.

I looked back in a search on allaccess and di not find any cuts...they did cut the dividend...that is about it.

As for my previous comment...I hit the "enter" button too soon. I meant to say that Journal knows where its bread is buttered. They have staff on that station and the others run real lean and mean. Does that mean that they run the others the 'right' way? That is not my call...but I bet it puts Bob and the gang in a better position to weather the storm...I mean it can't cost that much to run J-105...Pay the AM show and then drop 25 bucks a shift to VT the other dayparts...

Editor's note: They laid off Ian at the X - then rehired him to replace Jac middays. That's the only example I can think of - though I believe there were some cuts on the TV side.

Things in this valley are getting even more challenging with the announcement that Micron may lay off 2,000 or more employees. Depending on how you calculate the impact that means between 8,000 to 14,000 more people in this valley may be losing their jobs because of the overall loss of revenue from those who were laid off.

Soon we may have to put up billboards: "Will the last person to leave Boise turn out the lights?"

The radio and most TV stations have cut to the bone and now they come back for another 5% pay cut. The recession or whatever you call this economic black hole we are in looks as though we maybe many months from recovery. Many experts are saying that the recovery maybe in the very last quarter of '09. That's a long time for broadcasters to keep losing money without coming back to the table asking for more concessions from the staff. This maybe the beginning of the break up of many companies as they will have to spin off some properties to stay a float. Here's hoping that things get better before they get worse for the financial sake of all of us.
