THE- has an outstanding point here..... Just how many of us radio people have not grabbed the paper to get the local news for air..... Newspaper or print media have always seemed to do the bulk of the research and footwork in the journalistic world...

One exception would be our "Local Embarressment".... Their stories are so short and without content as to well cause you know the word I just used..... And I am not talking about a Boise area paper this time.

"Somewhere ( Ironically, I think I heard this on an internet radio program…) That a recent survey found that something like 50% or more of the public questioned said they would not miss their local paper if it were to go out of business…"

I, too, saw that poll. I think what the people who say they wouldn't miss their local newspaper are missing is that a lot of the news they read or see in other venues comes directly or indirectly from newspapers.

How many blogs have their own reporting staff? What would Matt Drudge do without newspapers he can link to?

How much of what you see on the TV news shows originated in the print medium?

Those who say they wouldn't miss their local newspaper are missing this fact of life.

Raymond is right. It is called convergence and is happening as we speak. A good example (maybe not the podcast, but the idea) is that of the Times-News in Twin Falls. They offer a daily 2:30 minute video podcast with all the days events available at 4:45. They scoop the local channels and get the latest news out before the daily commute. They offer up to the minute school closures as well. I also have to give them credit for promotion of their daily PDF version available everyday shortly after midnight (to which I subscribe). It is one of the few papers that has not cut back (other than closing the South Idaho Press, which it acquired a few years back).

I know there is a rivalry between radio/tv and newspapers, but with the web, the boundaries are blurred, and it is best we all get along, because we will soon be competing for the same positions. I for one, would miss having a daily around. It's sad enough to see that my old hometown paper, The Post-Register, has decided to go six days a week, and dumped a great editor. But I expect the changes will continue.

It is not the death of newspaper, radio AND TV....it's the evolution of media. Alll three are changing, those who are smart enough to change with the times will survive, those who want to hang on to the past won't.

Somewhere ( Ironically, I think I heard this on an internet radio program...) That a recent survey found that something like 50% or more of the public questioned said they would not miss their local paper if it were to go out of business... If true, and I wish I could quote the source, it would just confirm the trend....

If anyone has heard this and can source it, it would be appreciated.....

The Idaho Daily Mistaken (Statesman) and Tribune are going to merge and become the Idaho Mistaken Tribune???
You would believe this if you have seen all the mistakes in the Tribune lately. They need to hire proofreaders really badly.

I have no idea what may come from the Statesman, however it might be interesting if the decision is to move toward an online only project. It seems to be the trend.

When will the 2 part series on radio be?

<b>Editor's note:</b> There's no indication that radio is about to die -- and also if it were (and I may get blasted for saying this) it would not have the negative impact on society that the death of newspapers would.
