Pair of Journal stations stop streaming

Don @ IdahoRadioNews | March 24, 2009

Two Boise Journal Broadcast Group stations are no longer streaming online: KJOT/J-105 and KTHI/107.1 K-Hits.

Why? This from the Pete & Joe Show Facebook page:

Sorry folks, no live stream for now. That unfortunatly [sic] had to be given the ol’ heave ho due to the economy.

KQXR/100.3 The X and KRVB/Idaho’s 94.9 The River still have live streams — and to my knowledge the AM stations never offered that feature (or websites at all really).

Cutting streaming to save dollars! I understand that the bottom line dictates certain actions by management to balance out what needs to be done based on revenues. Radio groups every where have cut staffing to the bone and any other expense deemed as unnecessary. I think it is just about time for the radio groups to start spinning off the losers and get some extra cash to keep them afloat. The economy according to many in the world of economics is maybe months to a couple of years from a real turn around and the radio groups are going to need this extra cash to get through the tough times.

Can someone give us an idea of just how much money would be saved here….is it enough to justify the loss of service to PC listeners….. Courious……

With service and royalties figure 450 to 800 per month per station for this market.

Well, they sure won’t be now, which I guess management can use to justify their decision.

I know how they can save even more money. Turn off the transmitters. Do you have ANY idea how much electricity those things use??

Kidding.. I’m just wondering why radio doesn’t adapt to the internet. I won a $100 from a station in Atlanta just for listening to them on my PC.. They randomly pick listeners who are logged on. “Perhaps” creativity in promotions will drive the stream.
