KLIX’s good news!

Don @ IdahoRadioNews | March 30, 2009

1310 KLIXKLIX/NewsRadio 1310 will spend Thursday delivering good news to Magic Valley radio audiences. Starting at 5:30am, the station will present nothing but positive news for 24 hours. Stories, interviews and positive news will be featured throughout the entire morning show from 5:30am until 10am, then with updates twice an hour during syndicated fare. A Twin Falls nursery is helping sponsor the effort, and will launch a good news website starting Thursday.

Isn’t good news kind of an opinion?

Not to pour lemonade on the event… but. Isnt there an “urban legend” of sorts about a newspaper that once did the same thing… and went bankrupt doing it…..

in any case good luck and I hope it starts a trend!!!

I say great! It may not be a sustainable trend, but I think its a great idea to have good news from time to time – say once, twice or three times an hour. In today’s business climate I think its a positive idea.

It’ll be interesting to see what exactly constitutes “good news” considering the association with Fox News.

Gee radio doing some original stuff… may this trend continue. Sick of hedonistic blabber about how cool a dj was at a strip bar over the weekend. Awesome!!!

This is a dumb, destined-to-be-short-lived gimmick.

“We want good news” is one of those things that people say but don’t really mean. It’s like professional wrestling with only good guys–boring!

Unfortunately, newsworthy events tend to be negative. Think about it; you went to your job today, got through the work day and drove back home without having an accident. That’s all good, right? Yes, but it has ZERO news value.

News stories are generally about unusual events and those tend to be bad. That’s just the way it is. The guy whose car gets hit by a meteorite is news. The hundreds of other motorists who avoided being hit are NOT news.

A news station that went with a “good news” format would be OUT OF the format in one ratings book.

Tracy & Margo have been doing “Bummer Free Fridays” for a few months now. Nothing but a positive “spin” on the news, traffic, weather…whatever, and listeners have been giving us “bummer free” feedback!
