As the son of a current world record holder (the largest coffee mug collection in the world -- Caldwell), Guinness does have some very interesting hoops to jump through when applying for a new record. You have to follow the rules to the tee making sure all the proverbial "I's" are dotted and "T's" crossed.
For us, the process was a natural process. We stepped through the hoops one step at a time and everything fell into place for us. Our mailman personally delivered the world record certificate to Dad and still brags about delivering it and being present when the certificates and letter was opened and everything became official. He even had a tear in his eye. It was a neat experience.

Tony, you know, actually being there for 175 hours. Having witnesses. Not voice tracking part of it and then leaving to get lunch.
