This was done in Seattle around 20 years ago. It was the first system in the US that used the stations’ Subcarrier to broadcast Data Service, which eventually became the “Radio Broadcasting Data Service”(RBDS). At any rate, these were banned in Seattle and a lot of other cities because of the distraction- people were getting into fender benders while trying to read the “Now Playing” information on the Billboard. I suspect it won’t be long before the city that just held a bicycle funeral procession will also want the plug pulled on this before too long. Although, they still haven’t ofically outlawed the used of anything but hands free cell phones yet, so who knows?

KBSU Survivor…Since Bob plays soooooo many currents.I can see why it would be difficult for you to figure out what song is currently playing. The idea of the billboards isn’t to help peopple identify what song they’re currently listening, but rather it’s a great way of driving traffic to the 96.1 frequency…And since Bob is the #1 cuming station 10a to 7p adults 25-54, it seems to be working quite well.

So if I want to know what song is playing on BOB, all I have to do is park my car on the Connector and watch the billboard, because Bob’s RDS has been stuck on BOB PLAYS ANYTHING…BOB PLAYS ANYTHING… for days. Before that, it kept scrolling the name of a song that was no longer playing.

I hope they can get the real-time song titles fixed. It’s a neat feature.

Just Wondering…..Calm Down….Relax…Did you have sour grapes for breakfast or something? So far no one has claimed that this was “Impact’s Idea,” but rather this is just a creative idea regardless of who came up with it. We have established however that Impact is a smarter player than you because they obviously embraced the idea which has led to the desired result, PUBLICITY!!

Well it kind seems like a natural….given that the technology exists to put a billboard on your car radio, etc provided you have the RDS format system…… How many Treasure Valley Radio stations take advantage of the RDS technology and use it to its fullest potential?

Dave Arthur…..Thanks for the nice comments. We think this works well! We have a link to Lamar’s computer that controls all of the artwork on the board. We can change any of the artwork in just a few minutes! More now cool stuff coming soon……

Who cares whose idea it was… How many people you wanna bet will flip over when they see a song they like on the billboard? How many people you wanna bet will flip over to see if the info is actually correct? Yeah, this has been done before but if it’s a great idea, DO IT! And this idea is BRILLIANT!
