I keep hearing references to computers, such as how there is a “Virus on your laptop.” I wonder if this means that they will be launching an internet streaming feed sometime in the future.

I’m sure the website will be up really soon.

I suspect there’ll be a stream of lawyers from Sirius XM filing papers once they find out about the new name of this station.

Man, 2 copyright issues right out the gate. XM’s Opie and Anthony have a trademark registered in the venue of radio for “The Virus”…

I’m also pretty sure the band Bio-Hazard might take issue with the use of that logo also…

Haven’t heard the station yet…so reserving judgement on that front, but riddle me this…

Why would you launch an “alternative” station with active rock branding and logo? It looks like it’s straight out of the 1999 Nu Metal era. I’m not saying listeners will have a hard time taking it seriously, but…

    Seriously? a biohazard symbol?

Yes, this logo idea….was a brilliant concept… Now just being somewhat humerous and somewhat sarcastic but also factual… Think of the timing of this… for months now the entire world has been thrown in to a media driven frenzy reqarding a possible pandemic rivaling that of the Spanish Flu of 1918 with the the potential for millions dead and suffering… Flu strains gain intensity after they run wild through the gene pool in the spring and then typically if they do get a raging start hit the hardest in the FALL….hum,

Yes, I can see all kind of neat and interesting outcomes for this postioning statement… I could go on and on… but I think you all get the point….

To give you some perspective… Several years ago an upscale Chicago deparmtment store started offering “designer garbage bags”… (what every rich little bitch who has everything needs…) They came in all kinds of colors….and RED was one of their best sellers. But someone failed to do the necessary research and it fell through the cracks of those in command…

It was only after the waste and disposal contracters kept leaving the bags to pile up in front of houses that it was pointed out that RED is the international symbol for BIOHAZARD WASTE. No self respecting sanitation man who had been properly trained was going to touch that thing with a ten foot pole (or in their case-a biohazard suit and SBA gear)

The point of all this… DO SOME RESEARCH into what you are planning and it will almost always pay off in the long run. Shooting from the hip – leave that to hollywood and the movies!

Just what I want on my bumper this cold and flu season…a biohazard sticker…

At least the audio stream is a decent quality stream. It just shows Impact recognizes the issues with the signal in the greater Boise area.

The name is ridiculous, but the format is a little bit of a breather from the other stations (not including The River). I’m kind of digging The Virus…….Know what? I’m just going to call them KQLZ from hear on. Their moniker is a joke, whether or not I’m to take it seriously.

Looks like “The Virus” has a Morning Show! Welcome “Kevin and Bean” to Boise’s airwaves. Now, this might be cool.

You know what? It is not about what we think. The haters are all out on this one. The report card comes out in six months from the people that do matter.

    Lucky-

You have said one of the most accurate things to date concerning this format…Only time and sales will ultimately tell if it is here to stay……

It may or may not be around in six months, but the smart money is betting that, if it is, it will be under a different name.

Hey, Don, maybe you can get audio of Peak’s management reading the cease and desist letter from Sirius XM.

    OMG…

I just heard both a live jock between the syndicated morning show…

    And LIVE TRAFFIC…

    Amazing…

Piper Lynn still sounds like she called in on a landline/cell phone but still…

    This is a huge step…

Immediately folled by a Shilo Inns spot, Meth PSA and Wells Fargo spot…

The online feed works great for the bunker they call my office :)

Listening now to the “stream the world” link and am totally surprised that the bit rate is as high as it is…it is actucally listenable!

Companies wonder why streaming “does not work” or cant get people to listen…it is because bit rate is so low and sounds like Sh!T. The Citadel stations bring on the big suck too. People are not gonna listen to some crappy static or squeaky low bit rate stream…shoot even the Seattle stations have horrible streams too.

Most of my online streaming is to kqlz..org 128K ( very similar to the old Pirate Radio…same imaging..music etc) and to KUPD in Phoenix…Sandusky has a decent bitrate, probably 128K on that station too.

Virus…just went from Black to Last Resort. A string of 2 good songs…that is better than some do in the Boise market! LOL…kidding. (was just thinking…doesn’t Rocky do both those songs down at Hannah’s?) ooh ooh…a live female jock that did not sound “blonde”, she took a call from a lady who loved the new station…wait a min….LIVE radio…???????

Uh, I take it you have no idea how corporations will fight over control of their trademarks. I can’t imagine that Sirius XM won’t try to stop this use of “The Virus.” Could it get some publicity for KQLZ? Sure, but so what, especially if it costs them big bucks AND they have to change their nickname early on. Diary confusion doesn’t usually help a station.

If IMPACT needs to change thier stations name and logo due to all these copyright infringement issues, they could use:

    -KILLER FLU
    -Ebola
    -Small Pox
    -Festering Boil
    -Nagging Cough
    -Pandemic
    -Dying Hordes

Or you might have a better idea out there…. lol…..
