Wild parties down with KF-95’s old boombox

What goes around…. usually comes around. In this case, it’s the KF-95 boombox – which has found another life in the hands of a completely different radio station.
This once-blue trailer dressed up like a boombox started life at KFXD/KF-95, at a time in its life when pop music was all the rage, and KZMG/Magic 93.1 hadn’t yet gone pop. The mobile studio allowed talent to broadcast live, and had working speakers mounted in the side. (I used it as a place to change into the KF-95 dragon costume a time or two. I still haven’t wiped off all the germs.)
But now the boombox is in the hands of KWYD/Wild 101. Journal acquired the trailer along with the other KFXJ assets. After sitting behind the old Cassia building for a while – it was painted red and retooled for KQXR/100.3 The X.
So did Journal sell it to Impact? Not really. I’m told the Impact folks purchased it from a guy who bought it from JBG. They then went about making it a little big more modern (really, when was the last time you even saw a good ghettoblaster?). A fresh coat of paint and graphics – as well as an iPod center piece help launch the boombox into its third decade.

This will probably be blamed on me. No, I didn't sell it to Impact. It was sold it to a DJ/sound reinforcement company. They sold it to Impact. I'm not sure who's to blame for the iPod, though.
By the way, if it is your heart's desire to see a good ghettoblaster…

What is a 'boom-box'? Is that like an old-fashioned iPod? Again, it's clearly a redux of an old street tool for marketing and worse yet, it came from across the street. Not a great tie to the format and it is dated. Citadel may have some old inflatables for sale…
It is called an Ipod dock. They sell them at Walmart and Best buy. Today and in this decade and funny…they look like boom boxes.
Jim I guess maybe we should tell the dozens of people gathered around watching Wild's live mixers every night at the fair that it is old and dumb. Kindo of like radio. Hold the phone though(another dated invention) in Apple's improvements to the the 5th generation Ipod they just included an FM tuner. Hmmmm……….. makes you wonder.

Its called BROADCASTING BACK TO THE FUTURE. Radio must get back to its roots when ever possible. That means involved in the community. Impact was the only radio group to broadcast from the Western Idaho Fair everyday of the fair, live and local. Call it dated…. I'm proud of it and it works it gets people's attention! It even has two large LCD video screens for playing video games at remotes. OK…. I challange anyone to a quick game of PONG!

This may seem silly, but our station and students are thinking it would be cool to have a boom box broadcast trailor and reconfigure it to the 21st century for remotes. The station does full stereo remotes from a tent. A trailer would be cool. Any idea where to even begin looking for one?? Any where we can throw a free add up to look for one?

Oh the memories of that KF-95 Boom Box. Curt Caldwell and I throwing out candy from the top at the 4th of July Parade…huddling together with Neon Leon and Thom Overlie for warmth during the overnight hours of a December food drive at the mall…cowering inside with Evan “The Hitman” MC after the Steppenwolf concert got out at the Fair and drunk bikers were pounding on it telling us to quit playing that rap crap…Doug Hardy and I pulling it through the Kuna Christmas Parade…and of course, riding Dave Stone's bike through the junipers in front of the Amity building and wedging the front wheel between the pavement and the bottom of the Boom Box. The stories that thing could tell…
Tommy… remember the good ol days when we'd take that out Friday afternoons? You'd be driving all over while I did my show on the marti back in the trailer. We prolly shoulda been busted for driving while I was back there. FUN TIMES! “THE MEGA MUSIC MACHINE!!!”
Boomboxes…..i still have one that i took when KCID was sold from Caldwell to Boise. In fact i used it as a monitor under the table when KSRV-FM 96.1 THE BULL did its last remote ever from the Grand Opening at the Nampa Best Buy. Of course 96.1 is now BOB…….and your right that boombox on wheels has been around a while. Infact its probably worked at as many stations as Dave Tester

1985-88, I was 7-10, living in MHAFB listening to Steve Ryan’s Friday Night Mixer every week on my boombox and plenty of cassette tapes. good times!
