KCIX/Mix 106 has a series of billboards around town for Mike & Kate. The thrust of the ads are that the show is “12 listeners strong.” While that’s a (common) inside joke on many radio shows… is telling people that no one listens the best way to… gain new listeners? Thoughts?
That joke doesn't match the theme of the station. As for me not being an avid listener to Mike and Kate, this doesn't really catch me. Mix 106 would be better off just highlighting the show without the 12 Listeners Strong. My opinion….
Good luck to em..I'm still not intending to seek out Mike and Kate on my dial.
See, I am an avid listener of the Mike and Kate show, and I see it more as an inside joke. I laughed fairly hard when I saw the bill board for the first time. Granted, it may not be the best way to bring in new listeners, but as an inside joke it's good!
That's a pretty expensive way to tell and “inside” joke….It's not like Impact's billboards that they can change out whenever they want…that's there to stay, and it's not very effective.

Don't get it? Only 12 listeners are they getting canceled or something?

Pretty funny when Caves and Prater did the same joke two years ago.
