Who needs Boise?
Don Day | December 14, 2009I’m noticing a new trend: dropping the obiligatory “Boise” from the FCC-required hourly call-letter shout outs. Both KZMG/93.1 Hit Music Now and KCIX/Mix 106 have shortened their legal IDs to “KZMG New Plymouth” and “KCIX Garden City” respectively — both dropping the long-heard Boise.
Sadly ironic since these corporate station owners probably could not locate their own city of license if they were trying to fight their way out of a wet paper bag with both ends open. Thats okay. The folks that “donated” their respective local radio stations dont care about them anymore either!
Boise is only obligatory if it’s actually the city of license. Are these stations actually licensed here, or New Plymouth and Garden City?
By FCC decree…. You must mention the city of license at least once per hour…it used to be exactly at the top…then five minutes either way…and so on….but you have to give it with the legal ID….. after that you can pretty much say whatever you wanted to…..By putting the legal and the BIG city you could slide as if you actually belonged in the big city….. and then you can get into all the FCC paperwork and where its supposed to be stored and able to be accessed etc….but we aint going there….time is short…lets enjoy the time we have with Don….While we still can…..
