Morning show rakes in $5k for charity

Don Day | December 16, 2008

KCHQ/Q-102’s morning show raised $5,000 for E. Idaho children in a few short hours last week.  The station’s “Q Morning Crew” helped raise the money for Sub for Santa – which will help give toys to children in need this Christmas throughout the area.  Station PD Charlie Michaels helped organize the event after the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program ran out of toys – and aimed to give toys to about 450 kids

Press Club notes

Don Day | May 4, 2008

The Idaho Press Club handed out its annual awards last night. Staffers from newspapers, radio outlets and television stations (as well as some PR flacks and others) gather each May to celebrate the best in Idaho journalism. The warm-up comedian worked Paul J. Schneider into his monlogue (with a joke about the media’s coverage of his “ouster” that escapes me), and another riff about NPR’s Diane Josephy Peavy (who lives near Carey). There was also a joke about Idaho Daily Statesman entertainer Michael Deeds – who was actually in the room and also won an award.

Idaho Radio News was given the second place award for Best Website in the online publication/magazine division. The excellent Sun Valley Guide took first place honors.

Pay special attention to second place in the “Use of Sound” category…

Don Day | March 25, 2008

KCHQ/Q102 host Charlie Michaels is helped raise cash for the Teton Valley Humane Society — by living in a dog house until the station raised $10,000. The station raised the goal — and Charlie got… um… out of the dog house. KIDK-TV has the story here

KCHQ gets online

Don Day | January 17, 2008

KCHQ/Q-102 in Eastern Idaho finally jumped on the ol’ web bandwagon — with q102country.com. “We have been somewhat slow coming to the web because we wanted to develop a site that reflects the unique nature of our station and its coverage area,” GM Ted Austin told Idaho Radio News. “We are also the only east Idaho FM station with fresh local news updates provided to our listeners via the web on a daily basis.”

Austin also says he hopes to have audio streaming online by the end of the quarter.
