This is a little trick KCIX/then-K-106 liked to play when it was trying to take on KZMG/then-Magic 93.1 about ten years ago.
Listen here.

I’m noticing a new trend: dropping the obiligatory “Boise” from the FCC-required hourly call-letter shout outs. Both KZMG/93.1 Hit Music Now and KCIX/Mix 106 have shortened their legal IDs to “KZMG New Plymouth” and “KCIX Garden City” respectively — both dropping the long-heard Boise.

Nine years and one month ago, KSAS/103.3 Kiss FM signed on the air – designed to destroy KZMG/Magic 93.1. It took nine years and a raft of changes (and maybe a little help from Wild 101), but Magic 93.1 is dead. Not dead like this – but gone.

Wild also topped direct competitor KSAS/103.3 [...]

KZMG/Magic 93.1 is one of the longest-running heritage stations in the market. Launched in April of 1990, just a handful of stations have stuck with a format and brand name longer (KJOT/J-105 and KQFC among them). After a rough initial launch, the station turned into a missile squarely aimed at KFXD/KF-95 – an attack [...]
